Trip Overview

Bhutan, a religious, cultural, spiritual and mystical Kingdom is remained in the lap of surrounding freezing peaks. Travelling there offers the views of those dazzling peaks, magical pastures, lustrous environment, pristine rivers and amazing landscapes.  situated in the Himalayas. The pristine environment with divinity surrounding the mountains and the magical landscape is a breathtaking experience.

This beautiful small country attracts chiliad of travelers each year offering fascinating cultural shrines, astonishing mountain scenery, thrilling mountain flight, dzongs, hovering monasteries, antique temples, magnificent chortens and many more. 

In this 10 days Bhutan journey, you will get the close-up views of giant snow-hill as you visit different places of Paro, Thimphu, Trongsa, Bumthang, Gangtey, Phobjikha and Punakha.

Visiting Paro, you will explore Pa Chu (Paro River, Paro Dzong (a famous fortress and Ta Dzong (the watch tower). Heading towards Thimphu, you will visit National Library, Textile and Folk Heritage Heritage Museum, National Memorial Chorten, Institute for Zoring Chusum and an impressive fortress of Trashichhodzong, antique Changangkha Temple.  

Travelling to Bumthang provides you an immense opportunity to visit several Buddhist monasteries and temples. Several amazing vales as Chumey, Tang, Choekhor and Ura makes your journey more colorful. A scenic drive to Phobjikha and Gangtey and have short hikes passing diverse landscapes and terrains exploring unique art, architecture and culture becomes a long memory.

Detailed Itinerary

The flight to Paro passes several mountains and hills. Upon your arrival at Paro International Airport, our guide will receive you and will introduce this beautiful Kingdom.  Having the spectacular views of the valley, you will be driven to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. Stopping on the way there, you will capture the picturesque view of 15-century temple-Taachog Lhakhang. This antique shrine was built by the great iron builder- Drupthop Thangthong Gyalpo. After walking for 15 minutes, you reach a 15-century old iron chain bridge built by the same builder of the temple. Continuing the excursion, you will arrive at Thimphu. Rest of the day, you can stroll around the town meeting the friendly people and exploring therearound.

A big day is ahead. After breakfast, you will commence your sightseeing in visiting different places. Initially, we head towards a Memorial Chorten, built-in 1974 by her majesty Azhi Phuntsho Choden Wangchuk.

While visiting the Buddha point, you will see 169 feet of big seating Buddha which one of the largest Buddha statues in the world. From here, you will sightsee Thimphu city in the bird’s eye view.

As you visit Changangkha Temple- a temple made in the 12th century. You can explore the original old wall paintings and the unique statue of the god of compassion in the form of 11 faces in the seating poster. Traveling to Takin reservation center offers you to visit Bhutan's unique national animal, the Takin. You can visit a painting school where you will see artwork of Zorigchusum (13 traditional arts and crafts). Your journey continues to Folk Heritage Museum to see archetypal examples of traditional farmhouse and Textile Weaving center at Changzamtok. You can explore the traditional weaving style of fabric there.

If you feel energetic still, you can visit Tashichoe dzong or oldest fortress Simtokha dzong which was built in 1629.

After the first meal, you will drive to Punakha today. Stopping at Dochula pass (3100 meters), you can have the mesmerizing eastern Himalayan views with some snacks. Spending around 2:30 hours, you will reach Punakha.  After lunch, you will take a short and pleasant hike to Chimelhakhang (temple of fertility) via a terraced field. This temple was built in the 15th century by the first cousin brother of divine madman Lama Ngawang Chogyal. After that, you will make a visit to Punakha Dzong, one of the most beautiful Dzong in Bhutan.  It was built in the year of 1636, beautifully at the confluence of two rivers, Mo chu and Pho chu- male and female river respectively.

After eating breakfast, you will drive to Bumthang a core Bhutan.  After taking lunch at Trongsa, you will visit Taa dzong. This was used as a watchtower during wartime in the past century and later in 2008 it has been converted in a museum dedicated to the Wangchuk Dynasty, which depicts the stories of the Dzong and the Trongsa village.

You can glimpse the personal belongings of the kings and queens of Bhutan. Continuing the drive around 2:30 hours further, through a Yontongla pass (3200 meters), you will reach Bhumtang sightseeing the most beautiful landscapes of Bhutan.  It lies an area of high valleys at 2570 to 3150 meters.

Your beautiful day starts visiting

Kurjey Lhakhang Monastery, a monastery named after the body print of Guru Rinpoche.  Visiting the most important Nyingma Goenba in the country-Tamshing Lhakhang is spectacular. This Monastery was established by Terton Pema Lingpa in 1501. After having a relaxing lunch, you will visit Jakar Dzong, the castle of the white bird, Mebertsho (Burning Lake) - a very scared lake for Bhutanese people. Terton Pema Lingpa revealed several of Guru Rinpoche's hidden treasures from this lake.

After the first meal, your 6th day commences driving towards Phobjekha, a charming valley positioned at 2700 meters above the sea level. Here you can see

the Black Neck Crane, a rare species of bird in the world. On the way visit Trongsa Dzong that embraces 25 temples inside.

Reaching Phobjekha, you will have a short Gangtey Natural Trail hike. Passing the magnificent valley of Gangtey, pine bushes and viewing lovely view of roosting ground of black neck crane we hike around 1:30 hours for our destination.

After the first meal of the day, you will visit Gangtey  sangacholing monastery, one and only  Nyingma monastery in western Bhutan. This beautifully decorated monastery was built in 1613 by Gyalse Pema Thinley grandson of Terton Pema Lingpa. After this, you start your drive back to Paro. Spending around 6 hours, you will arrive at Paro. You will visit Dungtse Lhakhang, a 15th century’s shrine and is one of the antique and unique temples. Rest of the time, you can stroll around the beautiful town of Paro.

After breakfast, you will head towards to Chelela. You will follow the highest motorable road in Bhutan elevating 3,988 meters from sea level. In the 2 hours’ drive, you will glimpse of the spectacular views of the Himalayas including Mt. Jomulhari, the second highest peak in Bhutan if the weather is favorable.  Driving back to Paro again, you will have lunch. In the afternoon, you will visit Ta dzong (watch tower), a national meusum of Bhutan and is enlisted in the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. Unfortunatenely, the earthquake of 2011, the original structure was destroyed still you will explore splendid collection of Bhutanese artifacts like costumes, religious Thangka paintings, arm weapons, and a fascinating collection of Bhutan stamps in new gallery. Next, you will visit Paro Ringpung, one of the best example of Bhutanese architecture. Night stay in Paro

After breakfast, you will take a day hike to the consecrated Taktsang Goenpa (tiger nest monastery). This shrine was constructed on the rock face at 900 meters above the valley floor. It is said that Guru Rinphoche during his second visit to Bhutan in 8th century flew to the place riding on a tigress to subdue demon Singye Samdrup and meditated here for three months. Later in the 16th century, the then ruler of Bhutan GyalsheTenzin Rabgay built this monastery. One of the most scared, visited and highlighted site of the Bhutan is believed to be visited once in life. After this hike, you can visit Drukgyal Dzong(victory fortress). This fortress was constructed in 1664 to celebrate the victory over Tibetan invaders and destroyed by the fire in 1951. You will visit Kyichu lhakhang, one of the most ancient temples of Bhtan built in 7th century. In the evening, you can stroll around Paro buying the souvenirs for your beloved ones.
